Now you're here, now you're away, I don't want this, remember that

Welcome to the Friday Saturday Fluff Stuff!
Each week, I recap how I lived seasonally the week before (in one quick pic), and I invite you to do the same. Look around and donβt let the days go by. Notice whatβs new, whatβs special & notable, and make plans to enjoy your week. I promise this system worksβitβs life-changing. Life is not monotonous if you experience new things.
In How to Strength Your Happiness Muscle, writer and psychologist Jennie Tiatiz gives some excellent tips on how to feel happy, and I feel the βhappinessβ muscle crosses over into the seasonal living world.
A 2024 study of 85 students, led by Lucas LaFreniere, an assistant professor of psychology at Skidmore College, gave subjects with anxiety regular smartphone prompts to plan pleasurable activities, savor positive moments and look forward to future positive events. After a week, they showed significantly improved feelings of optimism.
So scientific studies show that putting fun things on the calendar and looking forward to them (aka βseasonal livingβ)βimproves your feelings of optimism. As someone living this experiment, I can confirm that it works.
Pay attention to a seasonal special at the coffee shop, pick up a seasonal item at Trader Joeβs, and watch some football. September has good stuff, people.
On to the Fluff Stuff!
I experienced (my second) Bush concert this week. My eldest son requested concert tickets for his 22nd birthday. He plays guitar and is a 90s rock guy, so he picked the Bush concert in San Antonio. If youβve been here awhile, the Seasonalist loves and respects music, and is always a yes for a live music experience. My review: the Bush concert was fantastic (openers: Candlebox and Jerry Cantrellβmore on that later).
As a HSP (highly sensitive person), music moves me. What a cliche, I know. But here are things I learned from one concert, shockingly from lead singer Gavin Rossdale.
Lesson #1: Age is Just a Number
Gavin Rossdale is 58, and I have never seen this level of energy from a lead singer. He was jumping, dancing, and running the entire show. Never. Stop. Rocking. In direct contrast to opener Jerry Cantrell (of Alice In Chains), who believed in his heart he was rockingβbut it felt like I was watching 4 robots perform Alice In Chains songs.
Lesson #2: Find Your Look & Style, and Own It.
Gavin Rossdaleβs hair? Exactly the same style as the β90s.
Gavin Rossdaleβs clothing? Exactly the same style as the β90s.
Lesson #3: What You Eat is Important
As someone who is right there in midlife, I thought to myself βI would also like to age with energy and zest.β At the breakfast buffet the next morning, I asked myself, βWould Gavin Rossdale eat this?β No, I rejected the pastries.
In fact, Rossdale has himself a little food Instagram page. Inspiration for aging wellββEat With Gavin Rossdale.β
Lesson #4: Wear Comfortable Shoes
As a shoe person/sneakerhead, as I was watching the show, I thought βis he wearing Dunks or Jordans?β No, upon closer examinationβrunning shoes. Mad respect. Comfort over fashion.
Lesson #5: Donβt Let the Days Go By
One of my mottos here at the Seasonalist is βMaking the Days Count by Living Seasonally.β Rossdale reminds us in the Bush song βGlycerineββdonβt let the days go by.
Gavin Rossdaleβs Morning Routine (not the content you expected today!). More tips on aging and living well.
I would never leave you without a playlist.
Seasonal Treat of the Week is Candy Corn Crunch from Target. βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ
Thatβs all Seasonalists! May your weekend be fluffy.
And donβt let the days go by.
Haha, same, same. I was oddly moved by the concert. Both in memories and awe (like how to age this well--wow!).
When I woke up this morning, I was not expecting or looking for Gavin Rossdale content, but boy did I enjoy it! My late 90's experience was soundtracked by Bush and No Doubt and this felt like a lovely blast from the past.
